Composition in Two Genres

The first Genre: Political Cartoon

 

Rhetorical Situation: Even though there were many actions taken to solve the Gender Pay gap in America, it still exists. It is not fair to have such a huge pay gap based on gender identity. Because this affects many families very negatively, it needs to be addressed and solved.

 

Genre: I believe that Political Cartoon is a very effective way to deliver my message to the intended audience, it is very simple and easy to understand to the audience and sometimes humorous as well which can be entertaining.

 

Audience: My audiences are the factory managers/ any bosses that employ others. Some of the examples could include corporation managers or private business employers. These are my audience because by reaching the bosses about this issue, they can help to solve it more effectively since they are the one who is employing others.

 

Purpose: The purpose of this political cartoon is to make the audience realize how a certain group of people has been discriminated based on their gender identity. Also, to persuade my audience to help to make changed toward this issue. Since my audiences are the bosses and they may be against this idea, continuing to entreat them may make them feel more sympathetic toward this idea and support it. This is important because the bosses have more powers than the employers, and the bosses are capable of making changes to the workplace faster than the workers. Therefore, reaching them would make the process of gender pay equality faster.

 

Stance: Satirical

 

The second Genre: An advertisement

 

Rhetorical Situation: There are many people still exist that fails to understand the need of closing the gender pay such as factory managers or lawmaker. They are just narrow-minded and set to their own belief. Through creating this advertisement, I wanted the non-supporters to see this issue from a different perspective.

 

Genre: This is a persuasive advertisement. I think this genre is very effective in delivering the message of inequality.

 

Audience: Similar to the political cartoon, this genre is effective in delivering the message the managers/ bosses. However, this genre is more specified to the people that are against the idea of gender pay equality. These may include the bosses, the lawmakers, or anyone that are against it.

 

Purpose: The purpose of this genre is to gather more supporters for this issue. To make the non-supporters to see this issue from a very different viewpoint. I believe that the more supporter we have, the easier it gets to solve any problem.  Through this advertisement, it is possible to gain more supporters, make this issue well known, and be taken more seriously by everyone.

 

Stance: Persuasive/ convincing.
